Reading time : 5 min

Dry skin is a common skin condition which develops when the skin is dehydrated. Simple changes in your skincare routine can help you protect your skin effectively. Discover the best skincare routine recommended by our Bioderma experts.

Dry skin  is a very common condition affecting people of all ages. Adopting a new skincare routine and preventing known triggers is a good way to take care of your skin and prevent dryness.

Why do I have dry skin?

The skin becomes dry when it can no longer retain an optimum level of moisture. This is caused by a lack of sebum and natural oil production. There are several possible reasons for dry skin, but the main cause leads to external aggressors like pollution, harsh products, or extreme weather which attack the skin's natural barrier. As the skin is weakened, it cannot protect itself and it starts to suffer from dehydration. Therefore, the skin becomes dry, flaking, chapping, or cracked.

Remove makeup (if needed, at night) and cleanse the skin (morning and/or night)

Remove makeup

Micellar water is a gentle skin cleanser
to remove makeup and impurities without needing any harsh chemicals. It is a good option for sensitive skin as it helps your skin not to feel tight and dry after being cleansed. The naturally derived cleansing agents instantly trap and lift away dirt, impurities and excess sebum while leaving the skin smooth and refreshed.

Sensibio H2O Micellar Water soothes and respects the skin balance. Effective for removing makeup from face and eyes, it is a gentle cleanser to use without needing to rinse it off.  It is a great product for sensitive skin.

Cleanse your whole body & face

To cleanse your body and face, we recommend using a cleanser which is a good ally to remove sweat, excess oil, impurities, dirt and dead skin cells that can clog the drainage of oil. Shower oil is a type of cleanser that cleans the skin gently and provides hydration for up to 24 hours. It is particularly suitable for dry skin and can be used on both the face and body.

Bioderma Atoderm Shower Oil gently cleanses and instantly soothes discomfort. Soap-free and non-comedogenic, it needs to be rinsed off. Apply it on wet skin and rinse off. Your skin will stay ultra-comfortable and nourished.

Hydrate your skin (morning & night)

Hydration is the most important step in your skincare routine
. When the skin is not hydrated properly, it gets dry and uncomfortable. Apply moisturizer every day and after each shower while your skin is still damp to lock in moisture.

Gel-cream formulas combine the lightweight texture of a gel with the long-lasting hydration of a cream. They are very effective for dry skin as they provide deep hydration thanks to humectants like hyaluronic acid or glycerin which pull water into the skin and help restore hydration level. Gel-cream also includes emollients to strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss. The gel texture absorbs quickly and because gel-creams are lighter in oils, they reduce the risk of pore-clogging.

Atoderm Intensive Gel Cream is daily skincare which soothes and reduces feeling of discomfort. It provides an immediate sensation of freshness while strengthening the skin for a long time.

Hydrate your hands (when needed)

As the skin on the hands is thinner and more prone to moisture loss, it dries out faster. Hands are constantly exposed to water, soap, cleaning agents and environmental changes which is why it is important to strengthen the skin’s barrier.

Hand cream contains emollients like shea butter that smooth and soften the skin. It also includes occlusives like petrolatum to create a protective layer to lock in moisture. Humectants like glycerin are also part of hand cream and help keep the skin hydrated and flexible.

Atoderm Hands & Nails is a nourishing cream which provides 8 hours of hydration with a non-sticky, long-lasting protective film.

Hydrate your lips (when needed)

The skin on the lips is different from that on the rest of the face. Thinner and more delicate, it is more likely to dry out and become chapped. Make sure to only use non-irritating lip balm when choosing a lip balm. If the product you apply gives you a feeling of discomfort, switch to one that does not cause this reaction.

Atoderm Lip Balm is a daily lip balm that visibly restores dry and sensitive lips by providing durable moisture with ingredients like shea butter.

Protect your skin (morning)

Protect your skin from external aggression like the sun and the wind. Use sunscreen SPF 50+ daily and wear protective clothing to protect your skin from harmful UV light and windburn. Unprotected UV exposure may contribute to skin damage and dry skin.
